Having a Star fruit tree at your garden will be a treasure point. These are not big trees, more or less looks like a bush of 25-30 feet high. Nice greenish leaves are light sensitive and will be fold up at night. It bears flowers in a color range of pink to lavender. Once the tree is matured enough, you will see the star fruit fruits growing on branches and the bark of the tree. And I am happy to say it bears fruits non-seasonally. Once it has started to give you the first set of fruits, it will probably give you about 200 pound of star fruit fruits in an year. This edible fruit is having five groves just like a star, which implies the general and most used name star fruit. There are two types of these fruits: sweet star fruit and sour star fruit. Fruit could be dark green, light green, yellow, and brown according to the ripen stage. You can simply pluck your fruit and eat right then or cut it into slices of stars. Or else you can use it to garnish dishes, make chutneys, sauce, jams, drinks and smoothies. Even if you pluck star fruit fruit when it’s still greener, you can wash and store in refrigerator. Even after it has plucked it would ripe in time in room temperature, you gotta turn it once in a while. As a plus of advantages, star fruit can be easily grown without much upkeep attention. It says to be a tropical fruit since it could grow fearlessly in hot tropical climates.

Star fruit itself have a good set of nutritional values. Within this juicy fruit it composed of: calories, water, moisture, proteins, fat carbohydrate, fiber, minerals (calcium, phosphorous, iron, ash, magnesium, potassium and sodium) and vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, carotene, vitamin C, vitamin A, ascorbic acid and niacin).

Pharmacological activities such as anti-inflamation, analgestic, hypotensive, anthelmintic, anti-oxidant, anti-ulcer, antimicrobial, anti-tumor, hypocholesterolaemic and hypolipidemic can be accomplished by consuming star fruit.
